For over 25 years Pro Tect has used the same formula to provide a film that stays in place for 45 days.

Can you leave carpet protector film down longer than 45 Days?

At 45 days or sooner, just pull off the old film and replace it with newer film.  It is safe to keep replacing the film, but don't leave it down longer than 45 days. Carpet Protection Film and Carpet Protector Dispensers can be left in place for up to 45 days on all types of carpets. Carpet Protection protects against damage from spills, dirt, foot traffic and is highly resistant to tears and punctures.  Pro Tect Carpet Protector uses a water base adhesive that is safe on all carpets.

Can You Install Carpet Protector by Hand?

Pro Tect gets asked a lot, "Do I need to buy the Carpet Protector Dispenser in order to use your Carpet Adhesive Film?"  While we would love to sell a Carpet Protection Dispenser with every roll, it just isn't practical.  Our Carpet Protection Film comes reverse wound, simply get it started and roll it out. Does it take longer to install without a Carpet Film Dispenser? Yes, but if you are only getting a couple rolls and don't see yourself using the carpet film over and over, then save yourself some money.

Easy Instructions for getting started with a Carpet Adhesive Roll by Pro Tect

On the ends of the roll is a tab that helps you find the start of the carpet protector roll.  Once you find the start of the protection film for your carpet simple begin to unroll the film, pushing it forward with your hands.  Pro Tect Carpet Protection is reverse wound making it easier to roll out on flat surfaces and even down-stairs.

**** Installer side note**** Pro Tect's installer's like to take about a foot or two, of the carpet film, unrolled and walk that area of film into place.  Once it has been walked down, we will use are feet to push the roll forward.  Walking it into place and repeating this process until the carpet film is installed.

"Do I really need the carpet film dispenser?"

Many people will get on their hands and knees when installing Pro Tect Carpet Protection Rolls and there is nothing wrong with that.  How ever, if you are going to be installing carpet film bi-weekly or more, the carpet protection dispenser is the way to go.

Carpet Protection Film is reverse wound (the sticky side is on the outside of the roll).  That way you can simply put the roll on the floor, get it started and then push it down the hall.  Really no need for a carpet film dispenser if your only doing small areas or not using it very often.

For those that will be installing carpet protection more often, it will be life changing if you haven't picked one up yet.  Once the roll is loaded onto the dispenser, it makes installing the film almost as easy has pushing a broom.  If you run into your fair share of carpeted stairs, holy cow, protecting the stairs take 30 seconds and is a one person job.  Read on for more info on the carpet protection dispensers.

Can Carpet Protection be used on floors

Please, Please, do not put carpet protection film on any surface but carpeted.  It would be like putting a sticker on your new hard woods.  Not easy to get off and a ton of elbow grease.  If you do get some on the floor, the best way to remove the film is to slowly heat it up with a "hair drier".  We don't want to melt the film, but heating it up releases it from the film.  Once the film is removed you can use an all natural adhesive remover.

What to do if you have an adhesive transfer

Once again, it comes down to water vs oil.  Because we use a water-based adhesive, the clean-up process is simple.

  1. You have to steam clean the carpet
  2. The wand of the steamer needs to reach 170 degrees.
  3. An all-natural cleaner or citrus cleaner can be added to the steamers water but not necessary for adhesive removal.  1 cup for every 5 gallons.

If adhesive should transfer, please call us: 1-800-545-0826 We stand behind our products and will help in any way we can!!!
